A New Addition

If you know Anchorage Trolley Tours you have probably met Cyrus. He is the son of our founder, Caleb Aldeman. Cyrus carries on the tradition of being a great community member and some even say community leader! Cyrus found an opportunity to help Downtown in a growing need and he jumped on it.

This first project started in spring of 2017 when we got the green light to start work on “View our Denali and Ride a Trolley”! The first Canned Design (Pun-Intended) was created by David Glenn Taylor of Element Designs. They loved the idea and within a few days we had our first version of the art work. We noticed one slight detail was missing and that was the word ‘’Trash’’ because people may have never seen a bear proof trash can before. We all laughed about it, changed our design and submitted it to our Project leader George Martinez, Jr. He reviewed our work and generously gave us the location we hoped for. The Corner of 4th and F st. Located directly in front of the log cabin visitor center and the perfect view to see Denali on a clear day.

In the Spring of 2020 Cyrus saw his beautiful trash can had a rough winter and could use a little LOVE. Cyrus met with Anchorage Downtown Partnership and asked if he could redo the trash can with a new theme.

They immediately said, “Yes!! What do you have in mind?’’ We knew we wanted the new theme to say Community and Anchorage. We met with a few artists and one stood out! Cyrus first met Myranda while she was working in tourism as a guest service host for Holland America Tours and they quickly became friends. Cyrus found out that Myranda was an amazing artist and had her create an original piece for Anchorage Trolley Tours. She did such an amazing job! (The sun was in Cyrus eyes) We were excited to hear what she had in store for this project.

Myranda came up with this design and we Fell in love with it! She calls it, “Four Seasons of South Central.” Cyrus’ favorite is of course the Summer Scene of downtown Anchorage with our trolley and Rust’s Flying Service flying above but he loves every scene for different reasons. When you think of Fall time in Alaska you cannot help but think of the Alaska State Fair! They have everything from amazing food to GIANT locally grown vegetables to livestock. It is an Alaskan tradition that is loved by all. Winter time in Alaska is magical. Anchorage is a year round experience! Alaskans love staying up to watch the northern lights while roasting marshmallows or hitting the trails for some great skiing or fat tire biking! Alaska has something for everyone to fall in love with. Finally Springtime in Alaska comes with longer days and a fresh scent in the air. Everyone is rejoicing over the sun being out longer and longer each day so we throw a party called, “Fur Rondy.” This festival is one of Alaska’s largest events of the year. Thousands of people come to see the fur trade, running with the reindeer, and of course the start of the world famous Iditarod. This trash can captures all that Alaska stands for and we are so proud to be a part of.
